Well, I have been part of active rain for the last few months and have received some really good information from other agents.  But tonight, I created a myspace account to start my social networking.  From reading websites and talking with individuals this is the new age of the business.  I was wondering what others have done to start to social network?  And if you have started what is the best way of getting started.  Any comments would be helpful.

12 Comments on MySpace Web Site

The big hitters for Social networking are Facebook, Linkedin and Myspace.

Myspace is more of a personal site imo, thats where you can network more on a personal level showcase.  Its really meant for your friends/co-workers to see the personal side of you.

Facebook is really picking up speed in becoming more network business friendly, might be a good learning ground there to develop relationships and even catch up on your old classmates.  Facebook makes it super easy to see who has the same interests as you.

Linkedin is a monster social network sphere, its like the 6 degrees of seperation on a larger scale.

Good luck!

I don't have a myspace page, don't believe I would use it.  It seems like it is geared more for the kids.  Facebook is great.  Have a great night.

George,  The one thing I will suggest about MySpcae is to keep it personal.  The people on MySpace will see through your marketing efforts.  Use MySpace to keep in touch with friends and let them know what you do for a living.  But, don't market yourself there like you would in public.  Use some common sense with MySpace marketing.

Hi George,

I have a MySpace page, but only get strange requests to link as friends.  It has been a complete was of time, and I just ignore requests from it now.  Facebook is O.K., but still not worth it in my opinion.  They are still developing, so it may turn into something.  LinkedIN has been better, but ACTIVE RAIN is the best.  I devote the majority of my time to ACTIVE RAIN.

Myspace I use but its more of a personal thing. Facebook is pretty personal as well. Although its a great way to get in touch with old friends that could potentially lead to future business. You can read my blog on Facebook.

I have to agree with most of the comments above. I have profiles on Active Rain, My Space and LinkedIn. Active Rain is by far the best site for social networking. MySpace is rather random but it can probably help your web presence. LinkedIn is also good for assisting in establishing a web presence.

I do not have a myspace account...my kids (in their 30's and 40's) do use myspace for personal networking use. I find AR does the trick for me when it comes to business networking.

I'm using Facebook and LinkedIn, but Active Rain is my primary networking site.

I have been using different social websites for different purposes - I use myspace for friends, facebook for family and linkedin for business.  I find it difficult to keep up with all the options!

I use myspace for friends, but Im working on it for networking purposes.  I have not yet tried likedin.  I will have to check out that site.

I haven't done none of the three you suggested using. If you have to keep it personal why not just blog?

George - I haven't found MySpace to be much of an asset to developing my business, but others have. You might want to consider Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, or Flickr...just to mention a few. But ActiveRain is a great place to begin!
