DAVIDSON, N.C -- long-standing Lake Norman holiday tradition, Christmas in Davidson, returns Dec. 3-5 from 6 to 9 p.m. Opening ceremonies begin on Thursday at 6 p.m. with the arrival of Santa Claus on the town green. Children can visit Santa in the Community Room of the Davidson Public Library each night. Other event highlights include a live nativity complete with live animals, strolling carolers and other live entertainment, a doggie fashion show, an ugly holiday sweater contest and a variety of food offerings. Guests can expect to find unique gifts in the downtown specialty shops and enjoy horse-drawn carriage rides that depart regularly from Davidson Town Hall.
“We’re offering ‘A Taste of Davidson’ on the town green this year to purchase food to eat or give as gifts,” says Davidson Economic Development Manager Kim Fleming. “We’re also offering free trolley service pick-ups and drop-offs in some Davidson neighborhoods.”
Downtown Davidson and the South Main district will participate in this year’s event. Additional parking will be available at the Harris Teeter parking lot and Homewood Suites at the Circles@30, and a free trolley service will run continually between downtown, South Main and the parking areas. The Doggie Fashion Show is on Friday at 7 p.m. on the Davidson Public Library stage. Participants can register at townofdavidson.org/doggiefashionshow. The Ugly Holiday Sweater Contest is on Saturday at 7 p.m. on the Library stage. No registration is required — simply show up in your festive sweater.
Each evening at 5, Main Street from Concord Road to Jackson Street will be closed to traffic. Lorimer Road from Concord Road to the CVS parking lot will also be closed. Handicapped parking spaces will be available in the library parking lot along Lorimer Road, and an attendant will be present to allow drivers in.
In addition to the regular trolley service, this year’s event will offer trolleys to some neighborhoods to pick up and drop off residents. Trolley stops will be at River Run athletic field parking lot on Robert Walker Drive, the corner of North Kimberly and McConnell Drive, the corner of Ashby Drive and Lingle Drive, the corner of Fairview Drive and Caldwell Lane, and the corner of Concord Road and Faculty Drive.
