Home buyer stats and why to have them use a realtor in the first place

Greetings,

I found it very interesting articles  to the average home buyer.  Here is one.... is that 32% of buyers were first time home buyers, and that 24% of home buyers were single (15% females, 9% males). Also, although 31% of all home buyers were not married, the average age of the typical home buyer was 44 years.

Another interesting statistic is that the expected tenure of these home buyers is 14 years. I believe that is a lot longer than in years past. Didn't it used to be a 7 year turn around?

I have been working with a lot of buyers in 2016. The inventory of homes in Lane County Oregon is low. Lane County home sales have dipped this year so far! The home prices have not gone up much, but many buyers are now bidding on homes and the home price goes up. We had an agent list a home on Sunday of the past week and realtors and their buyers were lined up to get into the home. It was pending sale by Tuesday of that week.

My advise to buyers is to call a Realtor. They have the inside scoop on homes, they know the market and they have relationships with the listing agents which can edge them in on purchasing a home. Another thing for buyers to consider is that they do not pay a fee to the buyers agent. The seller of the house pays the commission to the listing agent and the selling agent. So buying a home with an experienced realtor is the best way to go!

All the best,

Jan that is interesting that average tenure is 14 years - and yes it used to be 7 years. I wonder if that number went up because of the downtown in the market and many sellers had to wait it out until the home values went back up?  That was the case here in Phoenix.

Hi Jan Sohlman - This is too wierd! I just read that same article. I was looking for some stats on how many buyers use the internet. (current stats) This article popped up so I opened it.  I have a retired realtor who has been out of the business and was not keen on the internet and wants his home in print.
