The Holiday Season is always a great time to visit Bedford. Picked as one of Virginia's best places to visit for Christmas decorations. This year is packed with events for all ages. The first Weekend of December is when all the Bedford Holiday events start, on Dec 4 Carriage rides begin in downtown along with Santa making an appearance at Peoples Furniture. Visit Santa for free and you can even take a selfie with him! Santa will be at Peoples Furniture at 630pm on Dec 4th ,11th, and the 18th.

December 5th is a big day in Bedford. It starts with the Christmas Classic, a 5k run/walk around the loop of Bedford. Money raised goes to the Bedford Area YMCA to help with their programs. In addition to the 5K (about 3.5 miles race0 there is a kids race. Meet at Bedford Middle School Gym. Register early as there will be lots of people racing. There is a small fee but you get a bag of goodies! Race starts at 830, during the race roads will be closed off for the participants safety.

Beginning at 11am on Dec 5th is the annual Bedford Christmas Parade. This years parade is expected to be a large the bedford christmas displayone with lots of local participants. There will be cars, horses, candy, and good cheer. Look for the Witt Fogleman float! People line the streets to see the parade, one popular spot is St. Johns Church on N Bridge St as they give away hot chocolate and cookies (donations accepted).

Following the parade, Santa makes a stop at the Bedford Fire Station for all to visit.

On Dec 6th during the 1030 am service St. Nick visits St. Johns church collecting new unwrapped toys to be given to the Bedford Christmas Station. The Bedford Christmas Station is a local nonprofit who supports local families during during the holidays.

On the nights of Dec 11th, 12th, and 13th The National D-Day Memorial will have Flames of Memory and Christmas, in which 4413 luminaries are lighting up the memorial in remembrance of those who died during D-Day.  This is event is free however donations are requested

During the month of December the Bedford Visitors Center has a tree decorating contest. Each year participants decorate the trees based upon the theme, visitors vote by donating money to the tree them like the best. You can vote as much as you like for as many of the trees as you like.

During the month of December the English Meadows Elk Home hosts a Christmas Display on the property allow locals to drive through and see the decorations that many say are based upon some of the residents. This is an annual event many people attend. It is a free event and very popular.

Bedford used to be known as Liberty and the Lake at the Liberty Lake Park is small but a great place to fish. During December it is transformed and decorated with Holiday theme lights and decorations. It is free too drive through and well worth the trip.

A free and fun alternative is to drive though town and see the Historic Homes and their decorations. Longwood Ave and Avenel are two very popular places to see the homes.

There is always a reason to visit Bedford and Christmas events / decorations  give you another excuse.
