Frances Matilda
Thanks for stopping by and taking time out of your day to read my post. My intent is to put a smile on your face. I hope that you will go away with some information you may have forgotten about or did not know. Now sit back and enjoy the post for the day.
Frances Matilda was born in Indianapolis, Indiana back in 1840 to Jacob and Esther. Nothing I could find could give me fodder to write about her childhood. Therefore, at the age of 17 she married Samuel. Samuel went to California and ended up working in a silver mine in Nevada. Frances followed him the next year. However, in 1866, they moved to Virginia City, Nevada and Samuel began going with Saloon girls. The marriage was doomed to failure and she left Samuel in 1875. To get away she moved to Paris where she met Louis. She abruptly moved back to California. It took Louis 3 years to save enough money but he went to Monterey, California where he discovered Frances Matilda recovering from an emotional breakdown.
In 1880, they married and moved back to Great Britain and as they say, the rest is history. BTW, you may know her second husband better as Robert Louis Stevenson. Yes, that Robert Lewis Stevenson the writer of Treasure Island and the Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. With the help of Francis better known as Fanny, she encouraged him to continue with his writing producing novels that still inspire us to this day.
