I love a roaring fire this time of year. It really doesn't matter if I've had to employ my boy-scout-fire-building skills, or just flip a switch, the result is the same. Those warm flames, not only warm my cold feet, they mesmerize me. I'm not sure what power they seem to have, but it's real!
When staging a home during these cold, winter months, I like to take advantage of this winter asset. I make the fireplace, if at all possible, the focal point in staging a room. I rid the mantel of any distracting clutter, yet at the same time I pull the eyes of my visitors toward the entire area.
If I'm working with a wood-burning fireplace, it's important that it is clean of any extra mess around the hearth. If there are glass doors, I make sure they are clean because, trust me, visitors will be looking.
Gas fireplaces are a lot easier to keep clean and are easy to use, so I like to utilize them whenever possible. Having a small fire going whenever visitors come over, adds to the sentimental ambiance of the season.
When spring comes, I will probably be adding some greenery to the hearth, so for now, I want to SHOWCASE MY FIREPLACE!
