There are all sorts of small details that are easy to overlook when you first look at a home.
Later, when you are moving in, you can “discover” things that you wish you had noticed up front.
The kitchen is a crucial room in a house and how much storage space it offers makes a big difference.
Many houses, across all decades, are short on upper cabinets. This is exacerbated if there isn’t a pantry.
Add in the fact that Colorado Springs houses are notorious for the predominance of 30 inch high cabinets, instead of 36 or 42 inch, and it is easy to find your new house short of convenient upper cabinet storage.
Count the full height upper cabinet doors in the kitchen. If the house doesn’t have a pantry, it is preferable that a house have at least 8 full height cabinet doors. (8 doors = 4 cabinet boxes)
If there is a good pantry, you might be able to get by with 6 full height upper cabinet doors but you can’t have too many.
BTW, are the cabinet shelves adjustable? Fixed shelves may not be conducive to storing taller items like pitchers. If you have shorter people in the house, adults or kids, adjustable shelves can make access easier.
