I talked to a FSBO (for sale by owner) the other day and he was so frustrated. He had an open house and people came thru and criticized everything. They asked if the carpet was original, who choose THAT wallpaper, etc. It really hurt his feelings and made him mad. I explained that was one reason to use a real estate agent, we can stay impersonal. We didn't raise our kids there, and have no emotions toward the property so we can see the property for what it is and judge it's value accordingly.

I agree. It is hard for a FSBO to see how an agent can really help!

Homes are very personal and sometimes just giving your Sellers feedback from showings, you really have to be sensitive.

Hi Dana - Welcome to Active Rain and congrats on your first post.  It is hard when thoughtless people make critical comments about someone's home and their particular tastes.  I agree that is a great reason to have an agent.  Looks like you're off to a great start with your blog - keep it up....

Sometimes FSBO's can simply be out of their minds!

I had a FSBO "allow me" to show her property last week (thanks for doing ME such a big favor!). In one breath she told me that her price was absolutely firm and she then asked me to take 2.5% rather than 3% commission (I told her "absolutely not").

So, she got upset that my clients did not buy her home last week. So, she did not allow me to bring new clients over to see her home this week, because she thinks I should only bring someone if they absolutely want to buy her house, for the asking price, with no haggling. Huh? How the hell would my clients arrive at such a decision and have such intentions without seeing the house first? I'm done with her! I will not waste my time bringing her qualified buyers. She's got a screw loose in her brain!

Yes, some FSBO's simply have some "issues" to cope with that I have no time for!
