This is a Crappy Post!

crappy

I apologize for the play on words yet it seemed so appropriate with this topic. I am referring to scheduling the dreaded colonoscopy when the time comes. No this isn't fun but it can save your life.

I am approaching my date this next week and am reminded how very important this is. My stepfather passed away from colon cancer and it was no fun watching him in his last days. This is a part of our bodies and we must take care to be diligent with the testing.

A few funny things come to mind however!  Laughing through the reality is often a great way to endure!

  • You might need a seat belt for the toilet during the prep time!  Those of you who have done this know exactly what I mean.
  • You might discover that gum you swallowed as a child!
  • Clean as a whistle will take on a new meaning for you.
  • Your stomach will be much flatter during the cleanse!
  • Your speed in getting to the toilet will amaze you.
  • Stock up on very soft toilet paper.
  • Wear comfortable clothing that can come down quickly!
  • Prepare the bathroom in advance with a nice smelling candle.
  • There will be no need for reading material as your hands and probably your feet may be engaged on either side of the walls! EEEK!
  • Don't eat spicy foods as you near the date for the test! I certainly don't need to explain this!

In all seriousness, colon cancer is a killer. Get yourself tested when your doctor recommends. Early detection saves lives.  More more information visit the American Cancer Society.

Yes, this is a crappy post that can save your life!

Paula, some of the more modern preparations are not as bad as they used to be.  In any case, if you're lucky you won't have to do it again for another five years!

That time is coming for me also. My Mother had colon cancer so it is in the family tree. Thanks for the tips or should I say reminder.

Very appropriate post!  I've found that the grapefruit soda found at Walmart helps to lessen the bad flavor of the stuff you have to take and qualifies as a clear liquid!  My mother had colon cancer so I get it.  Luckily she survived as this was a very long time ago when I was 2!  Good for you for sticking with this very important test.

It's not as bad as you think - the procedure itself is nothing. The worst part is actually the preparation. That's the crappy part (pardon the play on words here as well...). LOL

But perfect assholes don't have to worry either. Sorry, I could not let this one without the pun....

Paula - You did an amazing job making light of a very touchy subject. Getting a colonoscopy may be crappy, but like you said, it can save your life.

Imagine my horror when I went in for mine and recognized three of the "professionals" from church!! Ha. I told them I did not want to be the butt of any jokes next time I saw them!!  But next year it will be time again...and hopefully not end up like your step father...

It is serious and definitely not something to be taken lightly.  I recall picking my wife up after hers, and the doctor came in, looked at me and said I looked familiar.  I turned around for him and asked if I still looked familiar

Paula McDonald if the message is good, how can a post be crappy?

(And should I congratulate much in advance for your 7-figure milestone coming up next week, perhaps? That will be a great post for sure!)

Thank you for having the courage to write this post.  I must commend you, it  is written very well.   I was at the pharmacy the other day, and saw the horror on the face of the lady picking up her prescriptin for the colonscopy.  I guess it was a first for her.  I did not mean to laugh, but I knew the feeling well.  However, th procedure is a breeze, just the prep is tough, but it is well worth it.
