Lorraine
Thanks for stopping by and taking time out of your day to read my post. My intent is to put a smile on your face. I hope that you will go away with some information you may have forgotten about or did not know. Now sit back and enjoy the post for the day.
Lorraine was born in Philadelphia in 1810. There is not much written about his childhood except for the following. He kept getting punished for wearing out the knees of his pants observing the habits of insects especially the habits of ants. I can tell you he graduated from Yale University in 1831. He was a pastor of various Congregational churches in the Massachusetts area.
Although he did not invent this he is credited for it in the U.S. by receiving the first patent for the improvements he made. So you may know him better as Lorenzo Langstroth. However, can you tell me what he received this patent for and why it was so important?
Well although as I said he did not invent the “bee hive”, he revolutionized it by using a “bee space” in the top-opening hive. The opening was less than ¼ inch. It the space was larger say 3/8 inch the bees filled it with comb. Anything smaller or larger the bees would seal the opening. He also received a patent for the first movable beehive in America. His home in Oxford, Ohio is a National Historic Landmark.
