Is there a word, "shop-a-phobe?" The dictionary recognizes shopaholic, but not shopaphobe. As some of you might know, I dislike spending time shopping for clothes, but this week it was a necessary duty since I really didn't have anything to wear to a Christmas party.
So off I went, walking to Union Square, the center of the San Francisco's well-known shopping district. Into Macy's I went, and that's when the magic happened:
Clerk: Can I help you with anything?
Me: Oh yes, I hate shopping, but need to buy something for my office Christmas party. I would love your help!
Clerk: Of course I'll help. Let's go look.
30-45 minutes later, I was out of the store, with a shimmering shirt and skinny pants that I would never have found on my own. I like them!
I like the clerk even more - she spent at least 30 minutes bringing in clothes, checking for various sizes, and graciously took care of me.
And I like the decorations in Union Square and the delightful walk I had up and over Nob Hill and return. A successful outing in every way.
Are you ready to find your home or pied-a-terre in San Francisco? Don't know where to begin? Call me and, like the clerk at Macy's I'll say: "Of course I'll help; let's go look."
