The Dolphins can officially be taken off the clock after signing Michigan offensive tackle Jake Long, who will become the first pick in the 2008 draft.

The organization made the announcement at a 1:45 p.m. press conference. Long, the draft's top offensive lineman, gave up just two sacks and committed only two penalties throughout his four-year college career.

The NFL Network is reporting that the Dolphins and Long's agent Tom Condon have reached a five-year deal that will pay Long as much as $57.5 million, with $30 million of the contract guaranteed.

Christian,

Hopefully he is more Jonathan Ogden than Tony Mandarich. That first pick is so expensive these days that it can make or break a team for years to come. Good luck to the Dolphins next year......they'll need it when the Hawks come to town :-)

Christian,

I knew the Dolphins weren't going to get DE Gholston at #1 :)

Long has all the tools to be a great lineman we will see what happens. Now all the dolphins need is a quarterback and a pair of decent wide receivers.

Christian, kind of takes all the suspense out of the Saturday show about the top pick, doesn't it?

There are reports stating that Defensive End Jason Taylor is on the trading block. There is no way the Dolphins would trade him within their own division the AFC East. He would be a great fit in Oakland though, yeah wishful thinking................

Parcells will have the Dolphins back in the hunt in a couple of years.
