What is Walk Score?

Simply a map of what is near a neighborhood or address and it calculates a "walk score" based on walking distance to amenities.

Here is an example of a listing  I currently have on the market in Charlottesville:

402 Altamont Circle, Charlottesville Virginia 22902

This home has a ranking of 98 out of 100, extremely high and shows the value of living in a downtown area.

A good friend and client recently emailed me about this site and it really is a nice way to present data.

Give it a try, put any address in and you will get neighborhood data and a ranking!

enjoy

Charles, My house probably has a walk score of -8. We have to drive just to get around the block. LOL - Good post though, as I can see the usefulness in real estate marketing.

I know I should be more concerned about walking to the store or movies but I do like to have a yard to work in and some room around me. Great use of the computer to calculate the score. Thanks

Charles, that's a real interesting tool and can certainly be a big selling point for people who don't want to hop in their cars to get everywhere.  My home ranked a 63 on the walk score.  A condo I recently sold ranked in at 91!

My walk score is just 20 so as you see my present neighborhood is not very walkable:(. This service can be especially useful for those who are going to buy a house cause it can help to
estimate a particular location. But how often do we walk nowadays? I ve found one more service called drive score at http://drivescore.fizber.com/ With it one can see how close
establishments are by car:). Homes are often located in an area where restaurants, libraries, grocery stores, hospitals and other businesses are easier to get to by car than on foot.

Hi Charles,

Very cool! Thanks for sharing this information. I think this will be more important/useful these days with the fuel costs.
