Capitol Hill Christmas Tree (2015)

By
Real Estate Agent with RLAH / @properties DC / MD / VA

When people think of Capitol Hill, they think of "Capitol" and the tree.  Some people are aware of the National Tree just outside the White House and some people are aware of the US Capitol Tree.

I was going down Pennsylvania Ave at Eastern Market and saw our local tree.  This is our Capitol Hill tree, 8 blocks to the east of the US Capitol.  Hardly ostentatious, hardly worldly or inspirational, though neither is it a Charlie Brown tree.  Instead, this is a neighborhood tree, for the kids and the shoppers milling about in Eastern Market, which still has many local shops.  A great place to shop.

Capitol Hill Eastern Market Christmas tree

For me, seeing this, reminds me I live in the village, just as many other Americans do.  This isn't New York, it's simply a large village, albeit with a local employer that is quite well known.

Merry Christmas to all, and we do expect more of a chill this w/e, which will make it easier to consider Santa Claus next week.

Hi Claude Labbe , I've seen the ones near the white house, but that was in the 1950s.  I like the huge decorations on the one in your photo.

that is a lovely tree and I'm so happy you called it a Christmas tree.  With your village big employer being so politically correct and all.

Claude Labbe - many of us do live in 'village' - just surrounded by some big metros!

And nice picture of neighborhood tree.

Claude Labbe ~ now that's a cool tree! Unfortunately, at one of our local malls, we had a 90-foot Christmas tree go up in flames, talk about the grinch that stole Christmas

Bob "RealMan" Timm good point, I'll have to pop over to the contest. Thank you.

Tammy Lankford yes, the local employer isn't seen as the most logical or staffed with common sense people.  They're getting away for a long Christmas holiday, which is always nice for us locals.

Praful Thakkar I grew up in a small town, moving into the city, I realized many people seek the benefits of a village, which is why they've recreated them inside the city.

Endre Barath, Jr. Very legit point; villages can be virtual, which is a benefit which I don't even think Jane Jacobs foresaw.  (I was a huge fan of hers when I was in college, one of the few times I dipped my toe into a liberal arts class).

Joan Cox I was enjoying your photos of lights at the zoo.

Patricia Feager, MBA, GRI, Cert Negotiations Expert, Military Relo Prof I am trying to write more, but there are so many interesting people to read & learn from here; at times, it's more enjoyable to learn that to share/teach/pontificate.

Jon Kolsky One of the few reasons why a fake tree would have been better in that mall.  Presumably, no one was hurt.

Claude Labbe - you're a great writer and reader too. During the first few years on AR someone was always commenting (sometimes nice, occasionally, suspicious). I stopped blogging because I felt intimidated, especially when this person made an innuendo about one of my photographs. So I started reading and commenting more and less blogging. Then I read this person's post one day stating he was a stalker for new AR bloggers. I refuse to be bullied. Never commented on his posts or comments again.

You're a GREAT WRITER! Keep writing when you can. Please feel free to delete this comment if you want - it was important I get the message out to you.
