Your Head Shots Are Important!

Shanti

I see many real estate business cards and am always intrigued by the various types of head shots used. Some are very well done and some, well let's just say they are outdated, somewhat cheesy and often just not good shots. Your head shot is important as it leaves people with an impression about you, good or bad.

So what does make a good head shot? Lighting, clothing, background, clarity and of course how you are featured makes a big difference. Getting your head shot right matters so perhaps spending a little time and money on this aspect of your business is worth evaluating.

Yesterday I spent half the day with a photographer who came to me.  Her name is Shanti Matulewski from Austin, TX.  I met Shanti while in Costa Rica of all places.  She took some great pictures of us while we were down there. I visited her website after seeing a few of my new friends from the retreat raving about her work with their head shots.

Her company is called VanityFire Photography.  Shanti does a great job of learning about her client prior to meeting them to do their head shots. In this way she can use her creative skills to put you in the best light.

Shanti explained that by getting to know her clients she can visualize how best to feature them. While we met yesterday, she did a great job to make me feel comfortable while doing the shoot. She recognizes that this is not something that I do on a daily basis so her calm, exact directions were appreciated.

I am anxious to see my new head shots! I have a book that is almost ready to be published so I was in need of a new picture or two. The great thing is that with these pictures, I will be able to use them in a variety of ways.  Social media, blogging and of course real estate.

Take a look at your head shot that you are using and determine if it might be a good time to get something new. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words right? It could be time!

Paula- I know that I need to redo mine, just waiting on a good hair day.  I do agree that it is important, and not in just the clarity, etc.  I've seen some that make the person look not that approachable. Not good when you're in sales.

Good afternoon Paula McDonald,

I couldn't agree with you more! It just makes sense to spend the time and money to make your first impression the best. There are many excellent photographers to choose from so there is no excuse for not finding one you click with! I use Korey Howell in Austin and love her!

Nice shout out, sounds like she really knows her stuff. You are so right about head shots, were you giving many of us a hint?

Paula, I do believe a current professional photo is important. I do not put a photo on my business cards ... it just does not resonate with me or who I am.  Photos are for Internet and Social Media in my real estate business.

Professional photos of yourself and your team are essential for social media. However, I haven't used a head shot on a business card in many years.

I agree that the photos are important and I think we are WAY past the time to drop the cheesy photos of agents "talking" on a phone or the "quizzical" hand on chin pose.  I don't use head shots on any of my marketing collateral, including business cards, just on social media...and I think maybe there is one on the About Me page of my website.

Paula - It probably is time for me to update my head shot, as I do feel it is important to have an updated photo, and one that reflects who you are.

Good morning Paula.  Other than a few more wrinkles here and there the ole head shot is the same.  I do need a hair cut however.  That one strand is getting harder and harder to find....
