GO GREEN REALTORS (Part 2)

There's no question that REALTORS are tech-heavy users and are especially dependent on printers and supplies. That means they can produce a lot of waste that can be bad for the environment.

2. Conserve energy

Turn off your computer when you know you won't use it for an extended period of time.

Turn on power management features during shorter periods of inactivity. Power management allows monitors and computers to enter low-power states when sitting idle. By simply hitting the keyboard or moving the mouse, the computer or monitors awakens from its low-power sleep mode in seconds. Power management tactics can save energy and help protect the environment.

Use "energy-efficient" products

EPEAT - Purchase Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool registered products. EPEAT is a procurement tool promoted by the nonprofit Green Electronics Council.

All-in-One Printers - Why power three different devices (printer, scanner, copier) when you can power just one? Consider recycling your old equipment and trading them in for an all in one or multifunction device.

Trade in - You may be thinking, "but my LaserJet still works, why replace it?" Two reasons: energy efficiency and increased productivity. If you can save money on energy bills and print faster and more reliably, would it be worth the cost to upgrade?

3. Reduce Paper Consumption.

Here are many easy, obvious ways to reduce paper consumption:

**e-mail instead of print and send

**electronic archiving instead of print and file

**use the "track changes" feature in electronic documents instead of red-lining corrections on paper

**Duplex printing instead of one-sided printing

**recycle paper instead of throwing it in the trash

Isn't it time to turn over a new leaf and go green? Your efforts will not only make you feel good about your environment- friendly contributions, it may even set you apart from your eco-"unfriendly" competitors. So, the next time a prospect drives up in a Prius, feel confident about conversing about conserving. You may just make the connection you need to convert him or her into a client.
