Why Wait Until the New Year?  Here are5 Things You Can Do Right NOW to Make 2016 a Great Year.

Yesterday I read an excellent post by Dan Dee McGinnis, DTM, NADOTA  on More Than 9 Productive Things You Can Do in the Next 12 Days.

These are things you can do now to get your business off to a good start. why wait

It made me think about the time we’re given at the end of the year.  It begins around Thanksgiving, and it slowly morphs into a cross between frantic shopping and eating, parties, and pushing the things we need to do over the border into the next year.

I offer you these 5 Things You Can Do Right NOW to Make 2016 a Great Year.

It doesn’t have to be for your business but for your life as a whole.

1.Join a gym!

I listed this as #1 because, the sooner you start working out, the more energy you’ll have to do the other items. If not a gym, then start walking, biking, lifting, swimming, whatever you can do.

2.Have a serious talk with yourself.

Make an appointment with yourself- just you.

Ask yourself what you want to achieve in 2016… not what your spouse tells you, or your mentor, or your peers. Where do you want to be next year at this time?

3.Purge your desk and files.

Start whatever process you use to put 2015 away.

And create your 2016 files or folders.

Whatever organizing procedure you use for your files, get it done now.  You’d be surprised how long it takes to do this if you wait until the new year, when you are interrupted by...well the New Year.

4.Eliminate any distractions in your home or your life that are time wasters.

This is a polite way of saying get rid of the junk in your home or life.

If you keep telling yourself that you’re going to organize your office or desk after the first of the year...what are you waiting for?  The New Year will start and you’ll still be sitting there wondering where to start.

If every time you walk into your closet you stare at your clothes and have not idea what to wear, it's time to donate and get a game plan for something new.

5.Go to “January 2016” in your calendar and start filling it NOW.

Book yourself up!  Don’t let the first week in January go stale!  Set appointments for doctors, cars, animals if you must.  Been meaning to have lunch with your good friend since last spring?  Make the appointment and get it on your calendar.

Try to see how you can have January almost filled with appointments or things you've wanted to do before the end of the year.

Yes, this is a fun time of year that we spend with our family and friends….when we relax and take a breath from having lived through the year.

But if you can carve out some time for next year, you’ll be the one to have the head start on the New Year.

Jeffrey DiMuria 321.223.6253 www.SpaceCoastHomesNow.com The time after Thanksgiving to the end of the year always seems like a slow time and then we rush after the first of the year to catch up.

Kathy,

Great idea.  Wnen I was little my family used to clean up everything before New Year's Eve which we celebrate with great food and wines.  When midnight struck all the lights in the house were turned on, kisses exchanged, and then we all went to bed.  A

Ron and Alexandra Seigel that' set a good example for you!  Believe it or not, I can remember being at my aunt and uncle's house on NYE where there must have been 40 people there playing mah-jong.  We kids ran around, ate and played with sparklers.

Hi Kathy,

I've bookmarked this blog.

It's funny because over the weekend I completed the company action plans for the next three months. So yes, it's a good to get things in motion right now, not next year.

Sheri Sperry when my youngest niece married, she had not dated a lot.  I asked her to do one thing for me- go and have a talk with herself and ask where she wanted to be in 5, then 10 years.  then I asked her to be honest and see if her fiance fit in that plan.

Great post Kathy, I will go over and check out Dan Dee McGinnis, DTM, NADOTA 's post too.

My busiest December so far, but I did at least buy a treadmill, not time for a gym, just stuck the treadmill in the middle of my office, and it forces me or whoever is visiting me in the office to either walk or be thrown off the end of the belt.
