How to Prevent Christmas Delivery Thefts

Search Reno homes for saleThe Reno Police Department has put out a list of their advice on how to prevent Christmas delivery thefts this year.  Many thieves have taken to following around delivery drivers as they go about their daily distribution of orders.  Once the driver drops off the package, the thief swoops in to carry it off before the homeowner has a chance to pick it up.  Here is what you can do to help prevent these thefts:

Watch for any suspicious vehicles that appear to be following delivery trucks in your neighborhood.  Also, keep an eye out for any suspicious people walking around or riding their bikes in your community.  What would be considered suspicious?  Anyone who is stopping in front of houses for an extended period of time or who wanders up to the front door of different homes and then leaves.  Report these people immediately.

Another way in which the police are offering advice on how to prevent Christmas delivery thefts is to have your package delivered to a neighbor's house or trusted friend that you know will be home to accept the delivery.  Better yet, have it delivered to your work address.  Always request that the driver knock or ring the doorbell when they drop off the package.  If possible, opt to pick up your online purchase at the company's warehouse.

If you notice anything suspicious going on at your house or any of your neighbors' houses, contact the Reno Police immediately at (775) 334-2677.  By following these tips on how to prevent Christmas delivery thefts, you could be saving you or your neighbors a lot of heartache this season.  It is always a good idea to keep a vigilante eye out for suspicious activity any time of year, though.
