Kiss my what?!

Many ancient cultures believed that the mistletoe plant had healing properties and was used as a balm against abdominal cramps, epilepsy, ulcers and poisons. It later transpired that mistletoe was a symbol of love.

In the 18th century, as part of the Christmas season, it became custom for men to steal a kiss from any woman caught standing underneath the mistletoe. Refusing to participate was viewed as bad luck.

So now you know, Merry Kissmas everyone!

Wanda, I had a conversation with some friends on Christmas Eve about Mistletoe. I'm surprised to learn that it's actually a parasite plant that attaches itself to trees or bushes and grows in many areas including here in the USA.

Wanda - Thanks for sharing this interesting information about the mistletoe. I had no idea how the tradition started.

I don't think I have ever seen a mistletoe plant.
