White Knuckle Real Estate

By
Real Estate Agent with Karen Parsons-Fiddler, Broker 949-510-2395 BRE# 01494165

Paula McDonald wrote a blog post today comparing real estate with college football. She started talking about excitement of each....and then reinforced the training, skill and effort it takes to become an expert in each endeavor.

Not where I thought it was going to go.

I thought when she started talking about the excitement...the ups and downs of the game...that she was talking about the ups and downs of a real estate transaction.

Yes....some are white knuckle events. But they really should not be. The Internet is full of stories of horrible real estate experiences. I read them all the time. While I'm not so arrogant as to believe I could have fixed all of them....quite a bit of the horror stories never had to happen.

Inexperienced agents, personalities, negligence and plain old greed seem to be involved in many of these deals.

Truth is there is no good reason for a white knuckle roller coaster transaction. Calm, cool heads can prevent this in most cases. Experience can normally take care of the rest. There are very few situations that are completely NEW any longer.

The agent needs to take off their ego and ask for help! There is probably someone in their office, or in the Rain, who has faced something similar...and come through it.

While a good coaster ride gets your blood moving, it's not fun on a daily basis.

Very well said Karen Fiddler, Broker/Owner if an agent looks for help they will find it.

I LOVE it Karen!  Thanks for the shout-out as well.  And like you, I do not love the white knuckle experiences.  Whew!

It's our job as agents to be the calm heads, the ones to help buyers and selling reach their goals. No room for ego in this business. I'm off to read the post by Paula McDonald now.

Hi Karen Fiddler, Broker/Owner  even if the experience is a new one, a seasoned agent will have the instinctive direction to follow to resolve the situation.... and asking for help is an option that should be exercised by everyone, including a seasoned agent.... Happy New Year, Karen....hope your Christmas was delightful....

I agree.  A real estate transaction should not a "white knuckle" event.  Maybe there are some hiccups behind the scenes, but not every transaction should have that element, or something is wrong.  Better preparation or expectations need to be set so that there are fewer surprises.  Thank you for the post.

You are right, so much of the drama could be avoided with good training, subjectivity and taking egos out of the equation. Hopefully there is always one voice of reason during a transaction to save the day.

Karen I agree.  We may not be able to eliminate all roller coaster rides, but we can sure minimize there impact and avoid others by taking the steps you mentioned.

Comparing real estate to a contact sport is a little extreme, even if it does feel like it at times

I could not agree more.  While I did have a couple of bouncy transactions this year, I was the cooler head.  My clients, however, were whirling dervishes who needed a rap on the skull!
