Real Estate is a local beast , part 2

In a previous post, I talked about one aspect of real estate being a local thing.  Today I'd like to talk about another aspect.

In a Q & A, someone asked if you still watch HGTV.  I don't think many agents watch House Hunters, because we live it every day (though we dream of having buyers choose after only 3 houses!).  One thing interesting about House Hunters is what features buyers expect at different price points in different parts of the country.

For example, in the Minneapolis/St Paul area, buyers expected granite and hardwood, even in $150,000 homes.  Here in my corner of Wisconsin, I don't find granite in $300,000+ homes, which are considered higher end homes here.

For those of you who have changed markets, have you found any differences in features?  Or have you had buyers who expected a feature not found in their price range, perhaps due to a home buying TV program?

Joan, I'm with you on the Househunters' dream of having them buy after looking at 3 houses.  And I cut the cord with cable - watching too much TV.  I actually miss my HGTV friends more than The Bachelor!
