Take a Hike with a REALTOR New Year's Day! Patapsco Valley State Park River Rapids Nature Walk

Did you know all 50 of our United States will be hosting guided  First Day Hike? State parks across the country, including our beloved Maryland, are aiming to entice you to the great outdoors. Hiking, walking, strolling, climbing and simply experiencing the treasures of our state parks. Knowledgeable state park staff and volunteers will lead people of all ages and hiking experiences and  many Maryland State Parks are offering pet friendly hikes as well. Oh and make a positive difference in your physical health along the way.

Here are some helpful tips from the American Hiking Society about cold weather hiking, following normal safety practices and the 10 essentials of hiking. I never leave home without water, non perishable snacks (almonds or a breakfast bar) and a flashlight and I’m only showing houses. Hiking requires a bit more planning so you and your hiking party remain safe.

Check out Maryland State Park First Day Hikes 1/1/2016 for hiking details near you. How about Patapsco Valley State Park River Rapids Nature Walk Time of Event: 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.? The McKeldin area is in the most Northern part of Patapsco, along Marriottsville Road in Carroll County, MD.

Meeting Location: McKeldin Area of the park - first parking lot after you pass the contact station.

Degree of Difficulty: Moderate hike for families

Length of Trail: 3 miles

Things to bring: Participants are asked to wear clothes and shoes appropriate for the weather (rain, snow or shine), and bring water for drinking.

RSVP: Families are encouraged to call Patapsco Valley State Park at 410-461-5005 to register.

Additional Information: Join a volunteer ranger and an author/naturalist on a walk along the beautiful middle section of the Patapsco. See three Maryland counties from a single spot. Visit the beautiful McKeldin Rapids and see the confluence of the North and South branches of the Patapsco. Ok big oops, I’m not sure where I went wrong, but, I appologize! The correct address was- 11676 Marriottsville Road. Marriottsville, MD 2110. There were quite a few people at the ranger station looking for the correct location, just like us. We had fun anyway and, met some great people.
