Best Wineries in SeattleSeattle, Washington offers many entertainment and cultural experiences. Visitors and residents enjoy visiting the wide variety of wineries, wine tasting events, and wine bars at some of the best wineries in Seattle. Each of these wineries craft and carry exotic wines that please the senses. Many wineries spend years perfecting the craft of creating the perfect wine, and they want to share the experience with their guests.

Wine has a history of being used as a celebratory drink. Traditionally, wine is made through the fermentation of grapes. Yeast in the wine deprives the fermenting grapes of sugar. Fermentation breaks down the sugar and gases of the grapes into alcohol and carbon dioxide. The higher the yeast level, the dryer the wine. Winemakers monitor the fermentation process of the wine carefully to craft the appropriate sweetness and taste. For a sweeter wine, winemakers will stop the fermentation process earlier. Alternatively, some winemakers introduce yeast to the wine early to start fermentation faster.

Winemakers are experts in knowing how to process grapes, fruits, and spices to provide full-bodied flavor. The color and taste of wine changes depending on which part of the grapes are used during the wine making process. For example, red wine uses the black or red grape's skin whereas white wine focuses more on using the grape's juice.

Once winemakers feel satisfied with the wine's taste and color, they store wine in large wooden or stainless steel barrels until it matures. The wood from the barrels impacts the wine in smell and taste. Depending on the type of wine crafted, some wineries will keep the wine in the barrel for many years in temperature and humidity controlled rooms.

Laurie, there are some wonderful wines coming out of Washington State, and my favorites are from the Red Mountain region.  Doing a winery tour can be such fun.  We have a lot going on with the grapes in Virginia now.
