2016 Books from the Heart, Helping more than just ChildrenReading is Essential for our Future

I received this letter a while back, along with the other business owners in our town, from a very special person at our local school and thought that I would pass it on for others to help out too.

Contributing to education is never a bad idea, well educated people become successful citizens later, and the cycle keeps growing.

This is why I never balk at the huge amount of property taxes that I pay each year that goes to several school districts that my children have never even gone to.

I find it strange that so many seemingly intelligent people fight so hard to cut funding to schools using arguments such as "my children went to private school, why should I pay for the public schools", or one of several similar selfish narrow minded arguments.

We don’t pay for schools so that Our kids can go there, we pay for them so that All of our fellow citizens will become successful and Fully contributing members of society.

After all, we cannot afford the alternative.

Dear Mr Crane

We all know that children are our future and there is always a shortage of funding for education of these students.   Something as simple as a book will help a child in many ways.   Reading opens doors for knowledge, creativity, empathy, and problem solving.  All good qualities needed to help children grow to and succeed as adults.

Please consider book adopting a child, a classroom, or an entire school, (K – 2 students).  Single donations of cash or books are also greatly appreciated.  Perhaps, a book donation bin in your office, for staff and the public to donate, works well in with your business’ mission and goals.

Thank you for considering the most important people in the lives of many - their children.

To book-adopt a child $5.00/per child
To book-adopt a classroom $150.00/per classroom
To book-adopt a grade level
$600.00/per grade

Call Sally Crane or Molly Wolensky for more information.  We would be happy to come out to your business and pick up books or cash donations as well.

Please send cash donations to:

Very strong message in your blog post Bob and the letter you received.

I have no problem supporting our local schools and certainly don't mind it when my taxes are raised to help schools.

Some people just don't care about our youth other than their own children. Young people are the future and we should all care.

A very good cause for sure.  I am sure there are many people who could help out with even just a couple reams of paper or the like.

Bob you nailed it "We don’t pay for schools so that Our kids can go there, we pay for them so that All of our fellow citizens will become successful and Fully contributing members of society."

Your ending statement was spot on.

That sounds like a wonderful program. Does each school run a campaign like that?

Hi Evelyn, we run the program district wide - so we cover 9 public elementary schools and 4 parochial schools.  I believe last year we gave out  just over 900 books - K-2.

Thanks for sharing this Bob.   It is amazing the amount of donations we get from community members that do not have children in the schools.  We are always so grateful for these donations.
