The Geeky Mom, Small Business Spotlight

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Executive

In this not-so-small-anymore town of Crofton where there's about 2 degrees of separation, if you don't know Dawn Bromante yet, you should.  She's the first person I call when one of our computers starts acting up!

You know how you think you're protected with your virus protection download, Macafee or whatever?  I thought I was protected and just chugged along day after day, doing my thing and little by little my computer started getting slower and more bogged down.  I got rid of programs, did a the geeky momdefragment, and it still was really slow.  I do have a bad habit of having many windows open at a time (21 in chrome alone right now), so I tried closing them as I was working and that still didn't help.  By the time it started crawling, my skin was also crawling so I called Dawn for help.

I dropped my laptop off to her and she emailed me later to let me know that she fixed it and the problem was that I had hundreds of VIRUSES!!!  I thought I was protected all along with my Norton, but nope, those suckers got in anyway.  I never open those weird emails or download anything unless I know where it came from and that still didn't help.  She explained to me that this was perfectly normal and it sounds like this is something that I have to plan on doing from time to time, sort of like going to see your dentist for a cleaning.

This isn't all Dawn does though by far!  She and her team of Geeks will set up your new computer, hook together your computers with a wireless network, set up your printer, help you with hardware and software, set up your webcam, do file transfers and backups and data recovery.

Dawn has also just started a newsletter featuring small businesses in the area.  If you have a business and would like to be featured as we did, contact her and she can hook you up so your information will be mailed to neighbors regularly.  Oh and if you don't have a website, she can make one for you too!

If it has to do with computers, just give her a call at 410-562-4819 or email thegeekymom@yahoo.com.     Their website is www.thegeekymom.com

Having viruses should not be accepted as normal. Getting a banking trojan and having your savings cleaned out, or ransom-ware that encrypts all your files until you pay to get them unlocked should not be considered an inevitability.
