Have You Visited the State Capital Where You Live?

 California State Capital Building

In 2015, I had the opportunity to go to Sacramento on business and view part of the State Capital Building. It was a fantastic feeling to walk through the halls of so many politicians; Governors, Senators, House Representatives and so many other important people plus the public. I felt even more proud to be an American after entering.

I was in awe when I went it the Senate Chamber as the room is absolutely beautiful and where many important decisions have been discussed and decided on. The dome ceilings, the columns, and the statue from the Queen of England all make for good photo opportunities too.

I adore animals so when I came across the State Bear Monument inside, I had to stop and take his photo.

Looking down at the checkerboard floors below and seeing kids there taking a tour. What a fantastic place to go for a school field trip! The statue pictured below commenorates Queen Isabella I of Spain approving the voyage of Christopher Columbus  to the new world.

The building itself was built in 1861 and was made to replicate the White House in Washington, DC. The Capital and its grounds were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. In 1974 the buildings was registered as a California Historical Landmark.

Part of the building has been turned into the State Capital Building Museum and many tourist and school children get a chance to go inside and realize how important our government is, workings of the state and national government, and our proud history. Perhaps these school kids will grow up and choose an occupation in law or the governmental process.

No matter what state you live in, try to make a trip to your State Capital building and I think you will be excited and feel what I did. I did hope to run into our Governor as we went up and down the back hallways and elevators but no such luck. Maybe the next time!

Hi Michele Cadogan

It is exciting to go into the capital and see our politicians at work. I always wonder how they can remember all those bills? Thanks for stopping by!

Good morning Kristin. I really enjoyed this. I have been the state capital cities in states where I loved but never to the capitals themselves. Great idea.

Hi Sheila Anderson

I honestly did not realize I would enjoy myself as much as I did. It was a lot of fun and I felt proud to see how our politicians and their staff work so hard.

Yes, seeing the State Capitol is an interesting experience. Since I live in the Capital City -- much shorter journey than you had to take!
All the best -
