Joan Cox ~ Hi Joan, Charlotte has always had a lot going on for MLK Day--I suspect quite a number of southern cities do. When I go back and look at stats for visits on my previous years' posts about MLK Day, the numbers are very, very high.

Nina, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was one of the stand out individuals in the history of our country, and well deserving of this day that has been set aside to honor him.

George Souto ~ you are quite right, George, in your assessment; especially if you consider what's been going on with race relations in our country in recent years.

Good morning Nina.  He was a great man but I believe his visions have been skewed by some.  Under the color of our skin we all are alike.  I'll leave it at that

Sally K. & David L. Hanson ~ good morning, Sally and David... the Hands On organization does great stuff in Charlotte and I love that they do the MLK program at local schools to get the message of contribution across to the younger generations.

Grant Schneider ~ I've been gone from NYC since 1998, so I don't remember to what degree MLK Day was observed there. It's a much bigger city than Charlotte (obviously) so events probably got "lost" more than they do in Charlotte, where they have a lot of visibility.
