Charlotte gears up to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. this week, January 12th through Monday, January 18th, with numerous events throughout the metro area. To commemorate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Charlotte events will include a parade, volunteer and award programs, as well as a prayer breakfast. 2016 City of Charlotte Martin Luther King Holiday Parade:
When: Saturday, January 16th beginning at 10:30am till 1:00pm.
Where: Parade route starts at 11th and N. Tryon and ends at Stonewall and S. Tryon (click on the link for the map)

15,000+ are expected to attend this annual event featuring floats, performers, and local VIP's, so it might be a good idea to arrive early.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Service At Marshall Park:
This service is held on the actual day of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday and includes a wreath laying ceremony.
When: Friday, January 15th from 12:00-12:30pm
Where: Marshall Park in Charlotte Uptown at 800 East 3rd Street
Cost: Free
Hands on Charlotte honors the life and legacy of Dr. King by organizing family-friendly service projects for hundreds of volunteers as well as collecting donations to benefit partners agencies.
When: Saturday, January 16th from 1:00pm till 4:00pm
Where: Two Charlotte school locations: East Mecklenburg High School and Marie G Davis Military & Global Leadership Academy

Martin Luther King, Jr. Growing The Dream Awards Ceremony:
This event honors the "unsung" community heros and leaders and their efforts in fostering unity and multi-culturalism and promoting diversity.

Where: Johnson C. Smith University at 100 Beatties Ford Road in Charlotte
Cost: Free, but space is limited
22nd Annual MLK Holiday Prayer Breakfast:
When: Monday, January 18th at 8:00am
Where: Crown Ballroom at the NASCAR Hall of Fame at 400 E Martin Luther King, Jr Boulevard in Uptown Charlotte
