Twin Cities Realtor Show a Success

On Monday, April 21 hundreds of real estate professionals gathered in St. Paul, MN for the Realtor Expo, Unlock Success.  It was a very fun event.  Agents came from as far away as Grand Rapids, MN to share ideas and learn about the new trends in the business.

I always love Realtor events because I get a chance to see old friends and make some new ones.  The real estate business has always been a balance between competition and cooperation in the sense that agents compete for listings and buyers, but we all need to cooperate to get the deals closed.  Attending these events can give agents the education and competitive edge to practice their trade on a higher level.

I was talking with one of my competitors in the home warranty business and we were talking how we work together to increase warranty usage.  He and I are both very competitive, hoping that we can sign on new clients, but we are both very professional and don't want to badmouth each other to steal clients.  Approximately 10-15% of transactions have a warranty.  That means there is an 85% growth opportunity for all warranty companies.  If we all work hard to discuss the benefits of warranties, all of our sales will go up.  If we spend our time pointing out our competitors weaknesses, the agents will not want to hear the negatives and warranty usage could go down.

Agents have a similar situation.  They are always in competition with other agents.

How many agents use a positive approach to presenting their strengths?  Has anyone experienced negative agents that badmouth agents from other  companies?  I would like to hear your thoughts.
