This is a very useful post by Lisa Von Domek .

More and more people are unplugging in order to save on the rising cost of energy.  It can add up when you compile all of the items in your home that are plugged in and vamping energy.

Thanks Lisa for sharing this with us all.

Energy Vampires and Phantom Power Loads

Did you know that your cell phone charger could be costing you money even when you are not using it?  Your appliances are increasing your electric use even when they are turned off.  Patty Kim, from National Geographic’s The Green Guide, shows you how to save money and save energy by pulling the plug on phantom loads and energy vampires.

This is great information!  I remember learning long ago that things will drain energy if they are left plugged in, so I always unplug when I am not using something.

My kids used to get so irritated when they would come home from collage and find their room totally unplugged.

Great advice. I don't think I will be unplugging my TV, but I do have several chargers that certainly don't need to be plugged in all the time.

Those power drains are really small, but still worth paying attention to. I'd rather do solar and save more by selling excess power back to the grid.
