Thanks Lise Howe , with as busy as it has been this year many of us are feeling the stress, thanks for sharing a few tips to help us deal with it.

We just finished 2015 - and now we are heading into 2016 with our goals ahead of us and our business plans clutched in our sticky little fingers.  Are we going to make our goals this year? Are we achieving goals or resolutions - what does it matter - just thinking about it makes me stressed!

With that level of anxiety on the eight of January, I loved the article in Rismedia by American Home Shield on stress relievers. Here are their suggestions -

1. Manage Your Time Better

AHS points out correctly that dropping the ball on the things we are supposed to do - and we know we are supposed to do - just increases our stress level when we know that we are behind on our to do list.

Whether the approach is to eat the frog or create a checklist, we will reduce our stress level by staying on top of our to do list. Of course that is easier said than done!

2. Take a Deep Breath

AHS is a big proponent of rhythmic breathing to calm you down and destress you. Honestly I think that the discipline of concentrating on your breathing probably takes your mind off whatever is bothering you!

3. Listen to Music

Listening to music - particularly classical music - can reduce your blood pressure and lower your cortisol level - a hormone related to stress.  Listening to white noise like the ocean or rainfall can work the same way! Probably listening to anything but the grating sound of your client's voice giving you a hard time will reduce your stress level!

4. Keep a Positive Attitude

Worrying about the outcome of a particular transaction or the direction of the housing market will only make you nuts! AHS suggests that you concentrate on providing great service and solutions when problems arise.   The more you stress about a particular situation, the harder it is to think logically.

5.  Get More Sleep

Most adults need between 7 and 8 hours of sleep.  If you are not getting enough sleep, it is hard to manage the stress that comes from being a Realtor.  I know that I am working straight up to the point at night when I fall asleep with my computer on my lap.  Apparently that is really wrong. We are supposed to cool the bedroom down, dim the lights, read or relax, drink something soothing like an herbal tea,  and turn the tv or computer off at least half an hour before bedtime.

6, Focus on the Plan, Not the Problem

This one is pure Gary Keller - but it really works for me. Why stress over the problem? Just get in gear and follow the plan you have created for 2016.  See - it all comes back to the 2016 business plan!

And here's to 2016! Make it a great year - and stress free!

Hi Bob... great choice for a reblog. All very good approaches to relieving stress, although I will admit music doesn't do much for me--I'd rather curl up in a quiet corner and read a good novel. Different strokes, etc!
