The Greenbrier Sporting Club 4th annual chili cook-off, Jan 16Support your favorite charity by attending The Greenbrier Sporting Club's 4th Annual Cabin Fever Chili Cook-off.

 

 

Date:  Saturday, January 16

Time:  1:30 pm

Place:  The Lodge at the Greenbrier Sporting Club

 

 

 

Sporting Club members, guests, and members of the community are invited to come out to support their favorite charity and eat some great chili!  The United Way of the Greenbrier Valley will be competing for the people's choice and coveted title of Best Chili.


Tom White and John Foster will be showing off their culinary skills as the United Way's chili chefs. You don't want to miss it! $10 gets you in and votes are $1 each.

 

TWO WAYS TO WIN:

Best Chili: There are TWO ways to win Best Chili. You can win with People's Choice (where you will be voted on by your peers) or Chef's Choice (where you can try and win over the Guest Chef, who has complete control over this award).

Team Spirit: There will be mason jars at the front of each booth for tasters to vote on their favorite team/charity. The money in each jar will go to that charity. After the tasting, the "Spirit money" in each jar will be tallied up and the results will be announced at the awards!
$1 = 1 TEAM SPIRIT VOTE

Tasting ballot money will be split as follows:
1st Place: 25% People's Choice, 25% Chef's Choice
2nd Place: 15% People's Choice, 15% Chef's Choice
3rd Place: 10% People's Choice, 10% Chef's Choice

Oh I think this is a great idea. I will have to bring this up with the town. We already do a chili cook off for the fire department, but that's in Oct. I think we could stand to do another one. 

Now what kind of chili is popular in your area? Green chili is very popular out here. 

I'm getting ready to make a batch of green chili stew. I will boil a pork shoulder in seasonings until it's well cooked and then shred it and put it in my crock pot with some of the green chilis I froze at the end of the gardening season. The last time I made this everyone said they loved it. It was spicy.

Debbie Laity - we have at least 3-4 chili cook offs during the year. Your recipes sounds good, but sorry to say I can't eat spicy foods, but my husband would love it.  Spicy is a favorite in my area. I hope to write about the winners for this chili cook off.
