Why People Love Moving To Rochester NY

Anytime someone is moving to a new area there is often a high level of uncertainty.  Leaving all of your friends, your job, and your community are just a few things that make the experience of moving to a new area nerve racking!

Certainly I may be biased, but one thing is for certain, there are tons of reasons why people who are moving to Rochester NY end up loving it!  The City of Rochester NY is one of the largest cities in all of New York State, however, it still has the small town feel.

If you're thinking of moving to Rochester NY, below are five of the top reasons you'll fall in love with Rochester.

Tight Knit Communities & Welcoming People

One of the biggest complaints you will hear from people who move to bigger cities is they feel like they lose that feeling of a "tight knit" community.  When you move to Rochester NY, even though it is a large city, there are lots of very close communities within the City and surrounding areas.

Local Rochesterians, which is the slang term for the local residents, are known for the kind and welcoming demeanor.  It's almost a guarantee that if you're walking down Main Street and you run into someone you've only met once that they will remember you and stop and have a conversation with you!

Endless Job Opportunities

If your moving to Rochester NY and have yet to secure employment, you should not fret!  The Rochester job market provides lots of opportunities.  During the summer of 2015, Rochester NY was voted by Forbes as the number one city to find a job in the United States.  That is pretty promising for people moving into Rochester who have yet to find a job!

There are several, well known companies located in Rochester NY.  Companies such as Wegmans, University of Rochester/Strong Hospital, and Rochester General Health Systems employ over 44,000 people in Rochester.  While these are the largest employers in Rochester NY, it doesn't mean there aren't opportunities with smaller companies.

Affordable Real Estate

One of the most unique features of Rochester NY is the affordable real estate.  The City of Rochester NY is surrounded by several top notch real estate communities and neighborhoods.  These real estate communities and neighborhoods have an extremely wide range of home values.  Ranging from under $100,000 to over $1,000,000, there is a home that will fit anyones needs and desires!

If you're moving to Rochester NY and are looking for a home that is affordable, one of the most popular real estate communities is the suburb of Irondequoit NY.  Irondequoit NY is located just to the north of City center and is one of the larger communities of Greater Rochester NY.  The Irondequoit NY real estate market offers an average home value of around $120,000-$140,000.  Irondequoit is a very popular real estate community for first time home buyers!

If you're moving to Rochester NY and are looking for a home that is a bit more than a starter home, there are several communities surrounding Greater Rochester, NY that may be a perfect fit.  One of the most popular communities for those seeking out home values closer to $200,000-$300,000 is Webster NY.  Generally speaking, Webster NY Realtors have no issue finding a home for those looking in the $200,000-$300,000 price range.  One of the most unique features about the Webster real estate market is that you can find homes priced in the $100,000-$200,000 price range but also find million dollar waterfront homes located on Irondequoit Bay as well as Lake Ontario.

Last but not least, if you're moving to Rochester NY and are looking for a luxury home, there are also real estate communities for that!  One of the most popular communities for luxury homes in Rochester NY is Pittsford NY.  Pittsford NY has also been featured as one of the top 100 places to live in the United States in the past!

Tons Of Things To Do

One of the most important things to know before moving to a new community is whether or not there are things to do that interest you.  People who move to Rochester NY never seem to have trouble finding something to do.

Whether it's enjoying the extensive festival season in Rochester NY or playing golf on one of the many golf courses in Rochester, there is something for everyone!  In fact, Rochester NY has hosted several PGA Tour Major Tournaments including the PGA Championship and Ryder Cup at famed Oak Hill Country Club.  Due to the great support from the City of Rochester residents, the PGA Championship will be coming back to Rochester NY in 2023!

If sports are your thing, Rochester is also home to some college sport teams and professional teams.  The most recognizable college sport team in Rochester NY is the Division 1 Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Hockey team.  Professionally, the most recognizable sport team is the American Hockey League's (AHL), Rochester Americans.

Local Cuisine & Dining Scene

Have you ever heard of a garbage plate?  Probably not, but if you're moving to Rochester NY, you will shortly know what that is!  The garbage plate is one of the most popular local dishes and has actually been featured on the popular TV show, Man Vs. Food.

In addition to the garbage plate, another reason why people love moving to Rochester NY is because the dining scene is second to none.  There are not only nationally known restaurants in Rochester NY such as the Cheesecake Factory, PF Changs, and Applebees but there are also tons of great local restaurants.

Final Thoughts About Moving To Rochester NY

If you're unsure about whether moving to Rochester NY is the right fit or not for you, know that the above reasons are only five of the most popular.  Again, while I may be a bit bias as a lifetime Rochesterian, I believe living in Rochester NY is great for a ton of reasons.

Hi, Kyle- As a life long Rochesterian, I agree with much of what you said. May I suggest, though, that you fix a rather glaring typo near the beginning? You'll want to change "Tight Nit" to read "Tight KNIT" so that out of towners won't think we're buggy! :)
