A friend of mine sent me an email yesterday to let me know about a great organization called Soldiers' Angels.
Soldiers' Angels is a "volunteer-led, 501(c)(3) non-profit with the mission "May No Soldier Go Unloved." We have been providing aid and comfort to American military personnel and their families around the world since 2003." As of right now -- Wednesday, April 23, 2008 -- the site says there are 356 heroes waiting to be "adopted."
You can adopt a soldier or submit the name of a soldier for adoption. In order to adopt a soldier, you must fill out an application and you must be willing to commit to sending a card and/or letter at least once a week and one to two care packages a month.
If that is too much for you -- and it is a huge commitment -- the site offers a number of other ways you can help, from donations to volunteering to care for a soldier's pet while s/he is deployed to donating calling cards.
There are so many great way to help our troops while they are serving our country! Consider volunteering today!

This is a great idea. I can't imagine being in a foreign land and not getting ANY care packages or letters! I know people who have served overseas, and they all have said that mail time was special - and there were always people who didn't receive anything.
I'll forward on to friends to see if we can get some people to volunteer.
