2016 Restaurant Week in Hilton Head and Bluffton, SC
Hilton Head and Bluffton, SC Restaurant Week starts Saturday Jauary 23 and ends January 30, 2016. This is the 8th year for this event and at the moment there are 65 restaurants signed up! The menu for restaurant week isn't necessarily the 'regular' menu for these restaurants so in the spirit of the week, be sure to congratulate the restaurants for being creative and the waitstaff for being able to memorize all the new entrees.
YUMMMMMM is all I can say! This event gives me (and my usually reticent husband) a great chance to try restaurants we either haven't been to in a while or to try some new ones! It also gives me a chance to say that I'm contributing to the economy instead of having to cook!!!
MY FAVORITES
Big Bamboo Cafe - by way of fairness and full disclosure I know and really like both the owners :-) but still this restaurant is a mainstay in the Coligny Plaza area of Hilton Head Island and is one of few that feels like "Cheers." The menu is diverse and even the most finicky eater can find something they'll love. The speciality of the house is CURRY - be sure to schedule your restaurant week choice here on a Wednesday - it's curry night! My favorite is Daal Makhani (black lentils) but there are plenty of others from which to choose - hopefully they'll have a curry for Restaurant Week! Very fun to go there for lunch as well, I LOVE the fish tacos and your munchie while waiting is a basket of popcorn! Not just about food, Big Bamboo hosts some great music events too! Be sure to ask if Tristan or Keiron's around and say that Susan Jacobsen sent you!
Old Town Dispensary - Hilton Head doesn't have all the fun places; Old Town Dispensary is another place that is great for either lunch or dinner. During the summer you can sit outside under umbrellas or on the side porch and enjoy the music from the nearby stage. With an eclectic menu my favorite - though not on my diet for my New Year's resolution - are the crab, spinach, and artichoke bruschetta drizzled with aged balsamic vinegar.
Charlie's L'Etoile Verte - don't let the fancy sounding french name fool you - "Charlie's Green Star" is an intimate dining place tucked away off New Orleans Road with a warm and friendly atmosphere. The restaurant has been on Hilton Head for many years and feels like you've stepped into a charming restaurant in the French countryside. Great for lunch or dinner - I love the Cobb salad - the menu for restaurant week is very tempting as usual!
