Why Is Active Rain Labeled A "Newbie Blogging Site?"

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Compass 0524642

For years I've heard members of our industry refer to AR as a blogging site for "Newbies." As if we're a bunch of lost green horns bumping into each other with stupid questions & unworthy blog posts.

Would someone please inform me where the elite bloggers of real estate graduate to after they're done with AR? Is there some secret website that isn't found by Google that is of more significant relevance? I have a WP site and I use it diligently, but with that I incorporate AR. I use this site to help with my agent to agent networking and I use my WP site to target consumers. Both can be done on AR, but both won't be done on anyones WP site. I don't know of any Realtors who have active threads on their own personal website. It just isn't part of an agents DNA to spend their efforts supporting a post on a competitors site. This is why I believe both sites have a purpose - for me.

But back to my original statement...

Over the years I've seen hundreds of AR members come and go. Many of them are on FB, Twitter and Instagram, but they aren't blogging - at all. It's hard to consistently originate your own material. As months and years go by you begin to ask yourself... "What haven't I covered?" It shouldn't matter.

AR has new members and old members routinely coming and going. For me, this is terrific. It's hard, but I do my best to be as consistent as possible with posting. At one time I was posting 20-30 times a month, now I'm more around 6 posts a month. Years ago I focused on Members Only posts, now they're just about all Public. So while I'm not "new" to blogging, I am always trying to change and do things differently as maintaining a presence with AR will always be important to me.

Most new agents are told to sign up. They tried it a couple of times and moved on to other things.

I estimated it will take 3 months away from one's life blog, blog and blog to accumulate enough points assuming it takes only 30 mins to write a blog. That is an under statement. A successful agent found out I was still at it, said Sam you should try other ways to market yourself.  She did 30M last year and was very successful. She only goes to listing appoitment.

I think it's a great place to learn if you are new to blogging or being an agent. I also don't think there is a "time to leave" like many who gave up too soon think.

I hear you, Greg. I have slowed donw on my blogging in the Rain too, but I still believe it's great for business and referrals from other agents. I am looking to get back into the swing of things this year. I believe like you that a WP site and AR are both beneficial.

AR continues to offer information and knowledge as well as the interaction with fellow professionals around the country.  Oh yes, it offers us a platform to gain clients as well.

Hello Greg ... great post my friend and after 8+ years at the ActiveRain network, I wouldn't consider myself a "Newbie"
