Recent survey research shows people are looking to incorporate more environmentally friendly technologies into their everyday lives and into their
homes due to the effects of global warming and out of control gas prices, among many other things. Home energy saving is a lot easier than most people think and the benefits to your wallet and the environment outweigh any potentially complicated steps involved in making them happen. Consider these four to get started.
Use solar panels. Installing them is simply a matter of placing them on the roof of your home and connecting the proper wires to benefit from natural sunlight which is already quite abundant in
Florida. Used panels are comparably inexpensive than new ones and are capable of generating a healthy amount of power than their newer counterparts.
Replace incandescent bulbs with fluorescents. Replacing a light bulb requires minimal time and effort and getting rid of fluorescent ones can dramatically reduce your energy use and your monthly bill for that matter. What’s more, incandescent bulbs are cheap to buy, can be found at practically any local hardware or home improvement store and can last much, much longer than a fluorescent bulb.
Optimize the roof. Choosing to use light colored tile roof materials over traditional ones such as the popular shingles can actually make your attic feel like less of a sweltering desert and therefore reduce the amount of heat that gets trapped within your home, reducing the need to turn down the air conditioning to seventy or so which is often the case here in
sunny Florida.
Choose “smart” lights. Instead of wasting energy by leaving the lights outside on more than necessary during the evening, consider using ones that automatically shut off after a certain time or only turn on when motion is detected. Again, your energy saving efforts will be subsequently reflected and rewarded in your next electric bill.
