John Smoltz makes history.

Last night I got to witness a piece of baseball history as John Smoltz racked up his 3000th strikeout. Now, to put this into perspective, there are only 15 other pitchers to ever accomplish this feat. I have to tell you whether you like the braves or not, you have to tip you hat to this man because he is truly an ambassador to the game of baseball. I have added a video and the new list of the top 16 to achieve this.

Danny,  I am glad to see John Smoltz hit this milestone.  Especially, with the injuries and bullpen duty.

Jimmy, that is what I find impressive about this.

Danny, I agree with Jimmy, it is great to see Smoltz achieve this.  He is truly a team guy and an awsome talent!  I will hate to see the day that he doesn't go out and pitch anymore!

Ok, well I am not a huge baseball fan, but even I know this is SWEET! :-)

Tony & Darcy, I do not because you knowhe will become a pitching coach.

Brande, that is funny.

Danny, you know I'm a Mets fan, but I'm a baseball fan first. Smoltz has had an incredible career and has been a terrific pitcher for an unbelievably long time. What makes this milestone even more amazing is the fact that he spent a number of years as a closer which = less overall innings pitched. Congratulations to Mr. Smoltz - a great major league pitcher AND a terrific citizen too!

Jim, he is truly a cornerstone in baseball and a class act in the city.

Danny, thanks for the observation. You'll notice from your list that John (along with Niekro and Maddux) makes 3 Braves that are on this list.

Steve, that is true. I thought that Gaylord and Bob Gibson wore the Braves Jerseys too.

This is a great accomplishment for Smoltz!

BTW, your video is unavailable.

Danny------------ it seems Smoltz and Glavine have been around forever!!!!!!!! As a dodger fan i cant stand the braves but i do respect Smoltz and his historic achievements. He has been one of the most versatile pitchers in major league baseball`s history.

Smoltz is a baaaad dude. In the rotation with addux and Glavine for all those years- he was pretty lost in the shuffle. BEST part about Smoltzy is that he has a (20 yr) career 3.25 ERA.... but when he gets into the postseason he posts a 2.65 ERA in 200+ innings!!!

It was amazing that the Glavine, Smoltz and Glavine trio only won one world series against the Indians.

Reports on ESPN and sports illustrated are stating that Smoltz will be going back to the bullpen which isnt necessarily a bad thing.

2.65 erain in 200 + innings in the playoffs? Damn thats pretty sweet.

Rich, they end up that way.

Eddy, thanks.

Jim, he is a work horse.

Eddy, John kicks it.
