If you are in the bull's eye of the blizzard bearing down on the mid Atlantic - I am sure you are like me, tucked up with a good movie, a cup of cocoa, and visions of sugar plums dancing in your head! Oops - that is Christmas and I am a few weeks late! Fortunately it won't snow for ever - but that means that we will have to venture out to mountains of snow - well at least 20 inches, making this a record snow fall in Washington.
The Montgomery County Fire Department has asked residents to help Montgomery County firefighters by clearing snow away from fire hydrants as you are shoveling out your driveway and sidewalks. he expected heavy snowfall, along with the residue from plowing roads, may bury many fire hydrants partially or completely buried in snow.
If you know that you have an elderly neighbor, think about helping them by shoveling a walk way or front steps. Remember, with good luck you are going to be elderly some day, so help out your senior neighbor and get some good karma!
Think about where you are shoveling your snow. We had a neighbor several years ago who hired someone to dig out his driveway. All of the snow was thrown into the street, which had not been plowed yet by the county. This was the second or third day of waiting for a snowplow, so when our neighbor increased the snow in the street by several inches, many neighbors were FURIOUS! Be thoughtful. Don't blow your snow into your neighbor's yard or into the street. Keep your snow in your yard.
Try to be a good neighbor - - for your own sake. My husband still talks about our neighbor!
