Charlotte... The Day After The Big Storm... We all hunkered down yesterday during the ice and snow storm in Charlotte... with the biggest concern that we might lose power. The good news is that at my end of south Charlotte, no power was lost and we were home, safe and warm, all day. Unfortunately, other parts of the city and state were not as fortunate.
Always stunning how "quiet" it gets in the city when it snows... you feel like there's no one else in the world, but you. We didn't get a lot of snow, but plenty of freezing rain and ice, which is more dangerous and certainly a whole lot harder to "shovel."
My front porch has a very slippery covering of ice and snow, as do my front steps. I think I'll wait for the sun to melt some of this down before venturing out of my home through the front entrance. Walking outside right now is at least as dangerous as driving.
And no one is going much of anywhere today, either, or should do so. Secondary roads are not cleared and the snow is covering a lot of dangerous ice. It's certainly pretty and pristine on my street this morning. I heard the sun might come out a bit (though skies are pretty grey right now) to help with some meltdown, but really not expecting much meltdown before Sunday.
Carolina Panthers are still scheduled to play in the NFC Championship game tomorrow at Bank of America Stadium (#KeepPounding) in somewhat warmer weather. But out-of-town fans will have a hard time getting into Charlotte, although the airport is planning to resume flights around mid-day today.
10 GREAT WAYS TO AVOID "CABIN FEVER" DURING A SNOW STORM:
- Catch up on your reading. What could be nicer than curling up next to a fire with a great book?
- Make popcorn and watch a move or catch up on favorite TV shows.
- Start and finish up a home improvement project.
- Play cards, Scrabble (or any other board game your family loves), work a puzzle.
- Do some fun baking--try out a few new recipes.
- Nothing wrong with taking a nice, long nap!
- Organize family photos and keepsakes.
- Get your tax return paperwork organized for April.
- Clean out/organize a closet or two.
- If the weather allows it, go outside and build a snowman in your front yard.
