We don't have to all be the same...a hard learned lesson.

"Mommy, she's not doing it right!  She doesn't know anything," stated my almost 8 year old son about his 6 year old sister, with an air of superiority.

"She is younger than you, and is still working on learning those skills," I replied.  "It's okay if you don't do things the same way, as long as the end result is the same."

"She should do it MY way," he replied and stomped off.

This recent interaction between me and my highly opinionated son was brought to the forefront of my memory when I read a blog on AG in the outer blogosphere:  a blog war started and ended badly.

Carol Hian, a former (notice the word former) blogger with Redfin in San Diego, wrote a blog yesterday focused on another local San Diego real estate agent, Kris Berg (referred to as Barbie in the blog). Kris had written a somewhat sarcastic blog about Redfin's announcement that they will now be offering buyer tours for a fee to buyers that want more service from their buyer's agents.

Carol, assigned to blog about San Diego for Redfin, took her comments too far, in an action that send Kelman writing an apology on the company blog site.

When you sit down at your computer, are you thinking about WHAT you write in your comments and blogs?  If the owner of the company sat and read your blog and your comments would they say "Wow, Melina is a great agent!"  OR would they give you the boot like Carol got.

Regardless of how you chose to practice real estate, alternative business models are good for the industry.  Whether you like the concepts or not, having new concepts drives us all to be better, more efficient, and to hone our skills.  Competition and differences makes our industry "evolve" into something that is better for agents and better for consumers.

We don't have to all do it ONE way.  Sometimes as I hear about blog wars, I sit back and wonder didn't your parents ever teach you that we don't have to all be the same?  What about our society has made some of us feel like we can't deviate from the "norm" or do things a little differently.  Really all we should care about is the end result, which in real estate is happy satisfied customers.

With Rich's recent post about the blog spats that he is dealing with, I would hope that bloggers would remember that we don't all have to do it YOUR way...unless you are a highly opinonated almost 8 year old boy.

BUT...then again...you may not want to spend time in your room in time out.

I don't know about you, but for myself I am glad not to be like others. I don't like drama in my life.

ooo, ooo can I choose who goes to time out?  Good reminder to play nicely because there could be consequences.

Melina, I try to remember that ANYTHING I write on the web could end up going out to the world.  One time I sent out an email that was directed to my son about his financial woes to his entire prayer group that I had put together for his time in Iraq.  He was the only way who didn't receive the email.  It really wasn't a bad email as what 20 year old kid has money but it was a BIG lesson for me.

Steve-Sometimes I marvel at why people like to have so much drama in their lives...

Karen-I think as a former school teacher you would be PERFECT to be Queen of designated time outs.

Marchel-ouch.  Those group emails are killers.

And...we all are human and do not think alike anyway. Expectations are a wicked thing aren't they? I know one thing....I'm glad we're all different. :)

Good post. I've seen some rants(posts) that are getting out of hand. I choose to skip those and move on.

I try not to get personal in my blogs or comments no matter how I feel.  If I get upset at a post, I move on.  Not everyone has to agree.  Sometimes it is better to turn the other cheek or click to something you like better.

Sally-I agree.  Why would I want to be around someone like myself all day? How boring.

Robert, Peter-for me continuing to argue just creates MORE stress.  Why people want more stress in their lives is beyond me...

Melina-I try to create a dialogue with the comments but sometimes I know to walk away.  We are all different..it's a great reminder and a great post and I am not the only one who thinks so...Congrats your post was a Blogger's Choice Selection Winner!

Melina- Sometimes it seems we say the same things over and over and over again.  Some people get it, and some don't, at least not in the time span we want.  Watching what we say, and how we say it should be a given, unfortunetly it's not.  Too many people think they have a right to say whatever they want, and don't take into consideration anyone else, or how they will be viewed by  others.  Congratulations on your blue ribbon.......your message was worth it for sure :)

Melina, this was a great post!  It's so important to re-read comments and blogs before posting.  Once it's out there...it's mighty difficult to take it back & like you point out, it cost one lady her job.  Thanks for sharing this post with Blogger's Choice and Congratulations on your Selection for the Spotlight.

Kathy and Lola-I guess I think people that put other people down need some self esteem and confidence.  I think when you know you are a good person with value, you are less threatened by differences in other people.

Maybe we need a real estate "group hug." (I volunteer Cameron to bring some of his homemade beer)
