Your Favorite Sacramento Movie Theater Might be Closed

By
Real Estate Agent with Elizabeth Anne Weintraub, Broker DRE #00697006

It happened so quickly and quietly, like almost overnight, the movie theaters in Sacramento began to vanish. Every so often, though, I will go to the movies by myself, something most people probably think is disturbing or it would make them uncomfortable. Like going out to eat as a solo diner makes some people uneasy; I dunno, they think that others are staring at them, or judging them, or some other weird twisted scenario, when in actuality, people are far too consumed in their own lives to give yours, mine or anybody else's a second thought.

But most of the time I go to movies in Sacramento with my husband. He and I have similar tastes, which is important when you've been married as long or should I say as many times as I have. You can read more in my personal blog today at this link: Limited Choices for Movie Theaters in Sacramento.

Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents - I know how you feel.  We have only one main theatre but it does have 6 screens. There is a very nice small venue that shows independent films and it sponsors our International film festival.

Elizabeth, I have no objection to catching a movie by myself when I can actually find the time to make it!  Sometimes it's tough for Liz and I to align our schedules, my dual career life and her volunteer work don't make for a lot of mutual free time.  Before the holidays I made a gap to catch Spectre before it left the big screens.  I think there were 12 of us in the theater for the afternoon showing :)  Bill

I like afternoon showings, too. Fewer kids. I tend to see a lot of movies that kids like, and then I turn into grouchy old W. C. Fields, especially when they start wailing.

Hi Elizabeth.  I can't believe you have time to go to the movies.  Good for you.

Most of my life I haven't been very interested in movies. However, now that we're in San Francisco, I'm enjoying walking to the independent movie theater (some viewing rooms are as small as 12 seats!) or AMC on Van Ness, housed in an old Cadillac auto dealership, with many flights of escalators taking one to the appointed theater. And then there's the Kabuki Theatre in Japan Town, where one can reserve a specific seat, pick up dinner, wine, etc. at the in-house cafe, and dine while enjoying a film. Fun urban stuff!

I would so GO to Kabuki Theatre and have dinner while I watch a film. Thanks for the tip, Lottie!!!!!! Next time we're in THE City, I will suggest that activity.

Your right on point the movie theaters disappearing from the local landscape.

Good luck and success.

Hi Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents ,  I always thought, when movies came out on VHS and DVD and then Netflix, that people would stop going to the theatres and just renting the movies for the whole family to watch, saving a ton of money.....Just on the popcorn!

You know, Larry, I don't care how much the damned popcorn costs. It is irritating to me every time some schmuck behind the popcorn counter dares to utter the words: Would you like to supersize that? Or do you know you can get a combo fat-rat pack for half the cost? I don't care, just give me what I ordered, and make it snappy you little twerp. Of course, I don't actually say that, I just snap a photo of them doing something stupid with my iPhone and upload it to Instagram.

Good morning Elizabeth. There is an older movie house in the area where our beach house is, we always enjoy going there, just something very special about these older venues.

Good morning Elizabeth.  I haven't been to the movies in about a year. Just lost interest and it takes time out of my day.

Hi Elizabeth.  My wife and I discovered a new luxury movie theater in Jupiter FL with the start of the new year.  I totally enjoyed the experience with waiter service for decent food and drinks and a private reclining seat.  Finally, a theater where I can be comfortable (and fall asleep if the movie isn't good).

Do people get drunk and make noise?  While I might go to a Kubuki theater in San Frandisco, mostly I prefer popcorn at the movies. I mean, popcorn for lunch is one of the main reasons I go, LOL.

It's nice, no matter where you go to see movies, that you and your husband get out to do that.  I think my husband and i have seen two.  And that was when we were dating.  Turns out, that was to impress me.  He hates going to the movies, so I fly solo when I see them.

Silver screen and stadium seating with comfortable chairs... beats the home theater.. the lobby, smell of popcorn, all the coming attractions posters to plan your next escape at the movies with other movie goers who love film. Love it and the comment about married long, just not to the same person. Reflects today, the way it is and honest.
