Home Trends for 2016 Didn't Know I was "On Trend" with my kitchen!

By

I was reading the latest design trends for homes for 2016 thanks to blogger, Michael McGuffie and he had a link to the 12 homes trends for 2016. I just HAD to check it out. (I'm like an addict, gotta get my fix on what's new, up and coming, gorgeous, like the yearly Vogue fall fashion edition). Seems that in my humble abode out in the middle of nowhere,  my "waterfall island" is on trend! Heck, I didn't even know that this is what it's called! I just decided to ask my granite expert if he could do this to add more drama to our simple home on the ranch. Without blinking an eye he said, sure! He is a master artisan and owner of Absolute Marble and Granite in Vernonia Oregon. With my dramatic marble, (Rainforest Green Egyptian marble that has had a special finish put on it to feel the textures of the marble) he had to match the veins, striations, limbs, whatever you want to call them. Because we live in the country, surrounded by woods, we fell in love with this marble long ago and we put this in a home we sold, but I missed it so just HAD to put it in again.

Waterfall Island Rainforest Green Marble Countertops -Gayle Rich-Boxman Copyrighted All Rights Reserved 2016It used to have small shelves on the end; completely useless, so I suggested removing them and bringing the marble down to the barnwood porcelain tile flooring we had just put in to bring out the colors and textures in both.

Besides waterfall islands, what else is trending this year in home designs?

Copper bathtubs,

If i had all the money in the world one of the things I would do with it is build a barn and in the attic of that barn have a guest house with a bathroom just like this! Totally agree.:

intricate stairways, water-features splitting through your outdoor tables,

barn doors (I'M ALL OVER THAT and have been for over a year!)

Dishfunctional Designs: Great way to hide a modern TV in a farmhouse setting. Just install an old barn door so it will slide out of the way when the TV is on.:

...OMG, what's not to LOVE??

Even mid-century modern detailing is on trend, which is so cool as I just put a mid-century modern home on the market (built in the 50s) for only ONE DAY and we got a full price offer!

Do you see these trends in the homes you are currently listing or showing?

Gayle,

I love waterfall island.  In our next abode, I want one made of marble.   Love the stone you chose. Nice post.

Well, Michael Jacobs you often give ME aha moments, so it's nice to return the favor.

Ron and Alexandra Seigel I do, TOO! And we spent our anniversary at a beach in WA where the hotel room was this industrial chic with barn doors separating the master from the luxurious bath area--fell in love right then and there. We wanted to incorporate that to cover the giant TV that was a MUST HAVE for Larry, but there wasn't enough room on the wall--that is IF we wanted to actually open our front door! Happy Friday!

Gayle Rich-Boxman Fishhawk Lake Realtor (503)755-2905 I love barn doors, especially when they are reclaimed ones.  Some days, we think of getting a small house and adding to it, and some days we don't.  LOL A

so glad you're on trend.  That's a lovely piece of nature for your waterfall island.  Yesterday I saw a very cool onyx one.

We are seeing some of these trends, but a bunch just don't look right w/ the architecture here.  And, I see a lot of cooler toned homes here.

I can show you the hardwood trends, but was afraid to add the link.

Great talking to you the other night.

Gayle- look at you- you're a trendsetter!!!  I love the idea of reclaiming or utilizing architectural pieces from older buildings, like the barn doors.

I am not surprised at all that you are in trend without even knowing it.  Are those pictures of your home?  It is an amazing looking home!

Ron and Alexandra Seigel  and Kathy Streib we have lots of saved old wood from our fencing that we've taken down and will use it for barnwood STUFF, and right now am having a bookcase made out of curly willow and reclaimed wood. Almost done--can't wait!  Happy Friday to you both.

Debbie Gartner and Women of Westchester Working Together (I didn't know that was YOU!, too), I would love to see the link! We chose this porcelain tile flooring to give it a sense of old barnwood with some sage color to pick up what is in my marble, and also because it's the easiest and most durable for dogs and living on a ranch!!! We LOVE it.

Ron and Alexandra Seigel  When they visited the farmstead, Alexandra recommended a waterfall counter top on our island. I loved it when I saw yours. It's very dramatic. Can't wait until we sell the other place and I can do some redoing. ;)

Oh and not trying to hide.  This was originally a group of women sharing the costs.  they didn't blog much so over the years I would try to log on and comment once in a while to get them more pts for eventual free membership.

Now, I'm looking to start another website soon and trying to rush to get free membership and will convert the blog once I get everything figured out and set up.

Don't worry - no point gaming; the 2 accts are separate and I'm not getting "invite points" or anything.
