Flip Video Stories

Like many others here on AR I was inspired to buy the Flip Video camcorder...I was impressed with it's size and ease of useand enjoyed using it. But...( you knew that was coming huh?) there are some challenges using it that have dampened my enthusiasm for it. Here are my observations and questions for those of you that use Flip Video:

1. I find that it is very difficult to keep the camera level so that the movie isn't all jittery and shaky. I am thinking I might need one of those camera mounting poles where you set the height and then you can hold the camcorder steady.of course the pole doesn't roll so I am still going to have to manually move it... Is that the way to go? Maybe I shouldn't worry about the jitter factor as YouTube does seem full of that style.

2. I am just using the FlipVideo built in software and it doesn't give you much editing ability. What is a good editing program people are using with Flip? I need to be able to delete sections to shorten the videos.

3. The movie file size seems incredibly HUGE coming out of Flip! I compressed as much as I could but there must be a better way.Any ideas?

All in all I do like it and I am sure with more research and/or your help i will utilize it better. It is a cool little tool! holding flip video steady!

I have not bought one yet but I never thought of the jitters! A tripod on wheels would work (I think) but I can't help you with the rest of the questions.

Sean,  I also am waiting with baited breath to hear a reply. I just got mine this last weekend and you're right. The picture is very shaky.  I must have the shakes from either old age or the alcohol. lol:)

Monika: I didn't think much about the shaky aspects to the recording either until an agent in the office here said that watching it was making her sick because of the movement. ( Well, hopefully she REALLY DID mean the movement and not my video work!) That was when I started noticing just how much it ( or  I ) was shaking...

Jerry: Yeah, GOOD POINT... it could be the alcohol OR the massive quantities of coffee I consume! I think I am going to buy the tripod from flipvideo since it has a base that can 'cling/attach' to anything. That might help a bit. The editing issue is probably a simple fix if I can find the right software....You gotta love the 'shirt sleeve pocket size' of the flip though. I remember the "Over-The-Shoulder-Boulder-Holder" camcorders of the past.

This is one of the reasons I was considering another video camera - most of the higher end ones have image stablization.
