It was a beautiful evening last night in Naperville.
The temperature was in the mid 60s. No wind. It was just after 7:00 PM.
My wife and daughter had gone for a short walk in the neighborhood. I was tired from MY WEDNESDAY WORKOUT.
So I sat on my driveway drinking a cold Miller Genuine Draft Light. Out of a can. I would trade the twelve pack for two Heinekens!
Anyway, I was out in my driveway enjoying the evening when...
I noticed a man hanging around my neighbors driveway. Looking at the cars and such. He looked a little bit suspicious, but this is Naperville, aka "Pleasantville", so I didn't think he was up to anything mischievous.
Anyway, I watched. And sipped.
He noticed me watching, gave me a friendly wave, and came on over.
"Hi, my name is George," he said.
Hello. Some small talk ensued.
It turns out George is one of my neighbors. I had not yet met him, but we had exchanged pleasantries.
Seemed like a well put together fellow. Fairly hip. Probably mid 50's.
George is somewhat of a car buff. He was just admiring the 1985 Mustang my neighbor has in his driveway.
Well we got to talking. I have lived in the neighborhood for only 8 months, and praised it for it's friendly people, great locale, and well kept homes.
He agreed. He has lived here since 1976.
BUT HE COULD NOT STOP THERE!
"I see you are a realtor," George said.
Was it my RE/MAX shirt? Or my signs all over the garage that gave it away?
"Well my wife and I have been driving around lately," he said. Uh oh.
"And we have stopped by a few open houses," he continued.
"Don't tease me George," I interrupted.
But tease he did. He has been looking at some homes in some nearby pricey neighborhoods. 1 million plus.
We talked more. He explained his situation. I listened.
After about 15 minutes and one rejection of a MGD light offered by me, George left.
I bet he would have stuck around if I had offered a Heineken!:)
