Recently I accompanied my son when he purchased a new car. As a general rule I really do not like anything having to do with the car buying process!
This particular time was more tolerable for several reasons.
- He was dealing with someone I had recommended and trusted.
- The salesman's reputation was topnotch in the local community. His Facebook page had many endorsements and recommendations from previous customers.
- Among his competitors he has been recognized as one of the top performers.
- He listened and allowed his customer to make the final decision although the finances were between the finance folks and the customer. He did not need to get involved beyond understand the finance-ability and budget of the customer.
- He understood that, in the end, his customer had to feel good about the transaction and that the deal was fair.
How does this relate to the home buying or home selling process?
Buyers and sellers should choose a real estate agent who is recognized among peers as competent, recommended by former customers, and you can trust. Choose one who listens and understands your goals including budgets.
As for buying a car anytime soon....no. My general rule mentioned above continues to be my attitude.
