It is that time of year when families and individuals plan our summer vacations and think about weekend getaways! I know that I am anxious to have a little time away from the daily grind, even if it is only for a long weekend. I was thinking of the places I had vacationed as a child and as an adult when I realized that I had not visited New York City since I was about three years old. I don't even really remember being there, but there are photos of me in NYC at the Bronx Zoo!
Any trip I would take at this time would tend to be a long weekend as it is difficult during this busy time of year to get away for an extended period. That said, I was looking around the internet to try to find a customizable tour service. I realize that New York sightseeing can be quite overwhelming as there is so much to see and so much to do. There is also a lot I would be just fine not seeing and doing! I came across Family in New York! Not my actual family, but a unique tour service that pairs you, your family, or your group up with a New York City resident and tour guide who will take you to visit the sites and attractions that you actually want to see. The non tour bus New York City on a personal level!
Now, let me see what weekend I have free...

Rich, if you decide to make the trip, I think you'll enjoy yourself. There's a load to see and the City is much safer than it used to be. Maybe you'll even have time to take in a Mets game! lol

Hi Rich,

I used to live in New York, in Westchester County, which is upstate near Connecticut.  We moved when I was 12 years old and I haven't visited since.  I think it would be neat to visit NYC, though, now that I am an adult.  Once when I was younger, I remember seeing a broadway play in the city and eating at Carnegie Deli.  I can still remember the size of the sandwhich- it was huge.

Have a great trip.  If you go, please share some photos with us on your blog.

Rich, If I have the time off I can tell you where to go and what to see--it's my second home.  New York is definitely a walking city and you can spend one day uptown and one day downtown...I don't like the buses, either, but there are walking tours called Red Onion that are fabulous.  There is a LOT to do and I don't know how much time you have there but if I can help you with any information, email me!

Rich...you couldn't have a better guide than Carole...she knows of the neatest places!

I love NY. We went about 10+ years ago and stayed in Times Square..it was Christmas and it was beautiful.

We figured next time we'd stay in Philly and take the train in....I would really love to go again. It's a great city!

BLR Guy - I have gone camping, again as a child, in upstate New York but don't remember too much of that either.

Jim - I do understand that the city have really become much safer and tourist friendly. A Mets game...LOL...maybe for the park.

Rebecca - i am the same way. I went as a child but don't have any real memories of it. I think as an adult it would be a blast.

Carole - If I am able to go I will definitely hit you up for a few must sees, Central Park and the Met for sure.

Joan - Christmas looks very magical, in a black and white, big Hollywood, romantic sort of way. But I don't know if I could endure the cold.

Watching the Nutcracker ballet at Lincoln Center at Christmas is simply magical.

Taking a helicopter ride over Manhattan is breathtaking.

Visiting "Ground Zero" is deeply moving.

I LOVE NEW YORK!  Let's go!
