I attended a 100 year old aunt's birthday party recently. She got up gave a talk on her life and did ball room dance acted as she was still youthful. No sign of falling apart as she worked for City of Berkerly until she was in her 80s. The other day I got an text message from a 102 year old thank me for a gift I totally have forgotten.
We also have a couple of real estate agents approaching 80 and are still showing homes. There is no sign of slowness as better health care, nutrition make us to live way longer than our ancestors. We realtors have corpious savings and broker provide us with great pension that we do RE for fun. That is what many clients think! Ha.
Each time I look at obituary looking for sell leads I realize I have surpassed living longer than some of them. Before it was just youngers got into a car accident, now it is of natural causes.
Nathional Institute of Health (Cancer org) has published the leading causes of death in America from 2015 year:
- Heart disease
- Cancer
- Chronic respiratory disease
- Accidents
- Stroke
- Alzheimer's disease
- Diabetes
- Influenza and pneumonia
- Kidney disease
- Suicide (intentional)
Some in (pink) I feel I have some control of it. Others causes I am not so sure. At high technology I once specuialized in accelerated testing of products. Sudden death and mortality stats were employed by me where I got interested to find out human life stats.
CANCER is still the leading cause of death. As we age our body system seems to be unable to develop better immune system. My spouse says I am obsessed with different types of cancer causes I disagree. Once you contract it it is very difficult to get rid of it, especially it is not noticed earlier.
I looked at the cancer cause chart compiled by Cancer Organization. If it is genes in the family one probably can not help it. But it is caused by ourselves due to negligence or laziness, we have over 35% probability to write our own ticket.
In college, my dissertation adviser Charles N McKinnon said in a system (man or man-made machine) it is always the weakest link that will break down causing hovac. Once one component of body breakdowns the rest will lead to other system to failure and propagate so fast that ends system. Not sure why I get Naptune Society cards. Now I get in eMail as well. May be spammers know something more about me.
We need to take charge and take better care of ourselves to control our destiny. If we follow the advice and live well may be we all will live past 100s.
