Iron you excited?

By
Real Estate Agent with Daniel Gale Sotheby's International Realty

Aren't you excited that Iron, Iron, Iron..... is everywhere?

Iron doors and details are the latest rage in New Construction!

iron railingsWe see ornate Iron Gates, Iron Doors, Iron Balconies, Iron Lighting Fixtures and Iron Railings inside and out. All the details can be a strong form of expression! Some even get brushed with gold details, for a unique look.

iron balconies

Iron is ideal for outdoor patio furniture and withstands the sun, rain and snow. With its heavy weight, you never have to worry about it blowing away in wind storms. Decorative cushions soften it for comfort.

Inside, Iron is being seen on tables and chairs, and other furniture.

wine cellar

Another great use for Iron, is in a wine cellar! A detailed door leads to the collective assortment of wines and spirits.

iron furniture   The benefit of Iron is its durability. Sun exposure on a wood door can cause damage, Its stretches and shrinks, sometimes making it difficult to open and close. With increased exposure to the elements the wood often fades and cracks. Finishing it, can be very expensive, since wood is like a piece of furniture.

details   Iron can be ordered finished, in that case it requires little maintenance. If it is not finished, it requires a primer and paint and can go for years with low maintenance and care.

So now, Iron you mad for Iron?

You had me wondering if you might be related to someone creating iron work and apparently you have a neighbor who does this work. You did a great job providing ideas where iron work could be used, and I'm sure Italy was great as inspiration. This reminds me of a story in sales that I once heard from a sales manager in a different business. The story was titled, "if all I had to sell was Marbles". Nice presentation!

Craig, My husband was born in Italy and he too, brings elements of his world there to here. Thanks for your comment.

Hi Ellen, happy to see the star attached to this one. Iron is a wonderful element in design and architecture. You've done it justice. Enjoy the day. ( PS, it was such a nice surprise to talk with you) xxoo

Debb, I do hope its here to stay, we built our home 7 years ogo, and added the iron fence and changed some of the wood doors to iron, a few years ago, due to the fact my husband built 3 other homes next to us and started adding Iron on them. Now the neighborhood sits in unison.

I've noticed it & like it. Just wondering if it will eventually be hated again like wrought iron eventually was.

Love the rounded doors!

I think it works for certain taste and in certain communities.  Thanks for the post.  Iron is not generally my taste.  But I could see it working for me on some levels.

I have a friend that has an iron bed and iron dining table and wall hanging. It is definitely all the rage now.

Debbie, some people call my house a castle because if it's architecture and rustic charm, I wish I had an iron bed, keeping with the charm, but I bought ours before we moved in here and it's just as nice.

It all depends of course. Like others have said some areas, iron is used for security. my parents had an iron frame on their storm door up north and the small porch railing was a wrought iron. Love the photos!

Ellen,

Very nice example on way to use wrought iron.  When we lived in Napa, there were several artists who did magnificent gates.  I enjoyed your post.  A

Ironwork is extremely popular in Dallas, from contemporary homes to French chateaus. Beautiful gates, entry doors, fences, and balusters are found in many new builds and renovations.  I still have my original wrought iron outdoor furniture that has been refinished many times throughout the years. I also have my great great grandmothers iron bed.  Iron lasts forever!
