“Plan your work for today and every day, then work your plan”
~ Margaret Thatcher
Every motivational speaker and coach who is worth their salt, teaches the importance of having written goals and plans. Napoleon Hill in his book “Outwitting the Devil” stated that even a weak plan will work . . . eventually. This was written back in 1937. What was true then is still true today.
Since the first of the year, I have been working on a plan to increase not only the productivity but the profitability of the company. One of the things that I realized, was that the reporting system was way too complicated. Yes, home inspectors are proud of their reports. One of the things I needed to do was to get out of my own way and out of my own head and not be so ego involved.
I understand that reports are written for the consumer. However, the referral source often comes from their real estate agent. The challenge was how to balance the seesaw. Provide the necessary, pertinent information in order to do my due diligence and satisfy the requirements of the State, provide the necessary information to the consumer so that they can make an informed decision and not have a report system that is OMG! . . . overwhelming!!!
After having a mastermind discussion with several large, successful home inspection companies across the nation, the consensus was less is more. So less it shall be. We went from a 42 page report down to 19 pages. And so it goes. Sometimes I feel as if I am standing in the way of my own success. How about you?
That, my friends, is my 2₵’s worth for the day. Make it a great one!
