"Today in History: An act of Congress on Feb. 9, 1870, authorized the establishment of the U.S. Weather Bureau. Responsibility for gathering weather information was assigned to the Signal Corps of the War Department. In 1891, everything was transferred to an agency in the Department of Agriculture called the Weather Bureau." (P.44)

For all of you that don't live in Arizona, "You can buy all three instruments mounted on a single wall plaque in a style to suit your home furnishings..." Fortunately, in 1972, this instrument was offered in a variety of styles that could suit you: Traditional, Colonial, or contemporary. I can only imagine the difference between a contemporary one from 1972 to what we have now.
The image that is shown can be purchased from Brookstone and is called the Porthole Weather Center.
